The most talked-about film coming out of the film festival season, and an early favorite for many as “the film of the year,” is Sean Baker’s (“The Florida Project”) Palme D’Or winner “Anora.” The film follows a turbulent relationship between a New York-based exotic dancer and the son of a Russian oligarch.
Anora (played by Mikey Madison), a young sex worker from Brooklyn, gets her chance at a Cinderella story when she meets and impulsively marries the son of an oligarch (played by Mark Eydelshteyn). However, once the news reaches Russia, her fairytale is threatened when the parents set out for New York to get the marriage annulled.
