This month’s Golden Age selection is a true three-hankie weeper! Prepare yourself!
The always dashing Cary Grant plays the world’s most eligible bachelor who’s set to marry an heiress. Unfortunately for his bride-to-be, while he’s traveling alone on a luxury liner he meets Terry McKay (Deborah Kerr) and realizes he’s engaged to the wrong woman–and she’s engaged to the wrong man. What’s a ridiculously good-looking couple to do?
They decide to spend six months apart; and if they still love each other at the end of that time, they’ll reunite at the top of the Empire State Building. But the path of true love do not always run smooth, and tragedy threatens to tear the couple apart.
Leo McCarey directed both the 1930 original and this remake which was an inspiration for Nora Ephron’s 1993 romantic confection, “Sleepless in Seattle” (which we’re also screening this month).
Don’t miss your chance to swoon!
