Brand New 4K Restoration!
This month’s “Golden Age” selection is a raucous pre-Code comedy that has the distinction of being the first “talkie” for both Paramount Pictures and silent film “It Girl” Clara Bow.
Bow stars as Stella, “the life of the party, and HOW!” at an all-girls college. One night Stella goes too far at a bar and gets into serious trouble, forcing her professor (Fredric March) to come to her rescue and causing gossip linking the two to begin circulating. But when a classmate is implicated in a scandal, Stella heroically defends her friend’s reputation at the expense of her own.
Director Dorothy Arzner – the only woman to sustain a successful directing career in that era – has created a film rich with delights including a message about the supremacy of female friendships. Don’t miss this rare cinematic treat!
