This month we’re taking a Detour into a not-so-bright future and a life-or-death game show event of future past.
Set in a dystopian America circa 2019, Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as police captain Ben Richards who’s wrongly accused of killing rioters. After escaping from jail, Ben finds himself as a contestant on the popular survivalist television game show “The Running Man” where he’s pitted against a series of bloodthirsty gladiators for an enthusiastic home audience of ghouls. In order to regain his freedom and prove his innocence, he must to tap into government computers to prove the guilt of the regime who’s trying to frame him.
Paul Michael Glaser’s lurid, over-the-top media satire takes its inspiration from a pseudonymously published Stephen King short story, and features enough hilarity, violence and general mayhem to keep you cheering for more.
